That’s simple – you rest. Rest, rest, then rest some more. And when your mind tells you to get up and do something “productive,” or if your thoughts start with “I need to…,” remind yourself that the mind is not in charge right now. The body needs rest. All that said, sit yourself back down, snuggle under the covers, rub your feet together like a cricket and rest.
Then, when you simply cannot take it anymore, you get up and tend to whichever physical needs you have – bathroom, shower, eating, caffeine, etc. At this point, honestly ask yourself – what do I feel like doing versus what do I need to do? Thoughts of what you “need” to do are often subconsciously accompanied by guilt. Try to instead focus on what you feel like doing, or what you want to do. Let your feelings and desires guide where you spend your energy. Feel like going back to bed? Night night! Feel like a relaxing walk? Lace up! Feel like sitting outside and perusing a magazine? Let’s go! Remember – Need = stress. Want = freedom.
